Civility

Dear Ellington Family,

On March 13th at Ellington High School approximately twenty residents, students,  school and town officials met to discuss the meaning of civility.  As a precursor to their conversations, participants watched a Ted Talk Ted given by Teresa Bejan entitled “Is civility a sham?”  The group recognizes that small conversations will led to larger conversations that are honest, transparent and courageous.
The event was covered by Jackie Nappo from the Journal Inquirer – Ellington officials, students, residents discuss civility as a first step in response to tragedies.
The groups work will eventually focus on “During the aftermath of a national or local tragedy, how may we collectively capture the community’s human spirit to support one another?”  Yet, it is important to note that understanding and living civility is a concept applicable to a much broader context.
The group will continue the discussion in the coming weeks.

  • Tuesday, March 26th (5:30 p.m.) at Ellington High School library
  • Monday, April 15th (5:30 p.m.) at Ellington High School library

I hope that you are able to join us.  Enjoy the weekend.
Dr. Scott V. Nicol, Superintendent of Schools
